when i grow up

throwback thursday

Since it is Thursday, I thought it would be fun to do a throwback-theme post. Going through old blog posts has me feeling all sorts of nostalgic and reminiscent about the past. Thinking about how much has and has not gone to plan. Have you ever done a comparison on where you believed you were going to be growing up versus what actually happened? Because I sure have! I find it so interesting to see how plans change and mold through the years. How little decisions affect bigger decisions and so on.

So, what did I want to be when I grew up?

Easy! A veterinarian. For many years I begged my mom to buy me any and every book that had to do with animal and veterinary care. Especially if it had to do with horses. In fact, the more gory and medical the better for my little middle-school mind. I am sure my friends all thought it odd that I did not want to be an actress, dancer, or singer. However, for me it felt silly to want to be something that I knew I would not excel at.

Interestingly enough, a lot of the knowledge that I learned as a child stuck with me. The only change is that where I had an iron stomach, I now have a very weak and queasy one. Just the sight of blood (even on myself) has me woozy and ready to pass out. In an emergency I am able to act quickly and “get the job done” but then I quickly need to excuse myself for fresh air. One of the things that makes me laugh the most, is that I flounder when it comes to human care. If the ailment has to do with an animal, I know exactly how to act and what to do. When it happens to a person, I have absolutely no clue.
